Book Signing | Looking Good to Feel Good

Thank you to those who showed up for the first book signing of "Looking Good to Feel Good" on Friday. It was a great event. For those who may not be aware of what this book is about or how it came about. Dr. Sandra Bouzaglou of The Center for Plastic Surgery saw a need to help inform women facing breast cancer that there is life after breast cancer and that is breast reconstruction. For many of of us women facing breast cancer and all that comes with it, breast reconstruction is about making us whole again. A woman's appearance is so important to one's well being that breast reconstruction truly feels like a life-saver. "Looking Good to Feel Good" shares the experience of 13 brave women/patients of Dr. Bouzaglou. Scott photographed each of these women at their home giving their stories a personal touch.

I encourage anyone facing breast cancer or you may know someone recently diagnosed to purchase this book. There are so many decision to make when first diagnosed, some many questions needing an answer. Just think of it as a one-stop answer book. - Valorie Walz

Breast Reconstruction Awareness | BRA DAY LEX Event

It's now time for me to talk about something extremely personal that happened to me earlier this year. In January, I found out that I had breast cancer and life as I know it may never be the same. The bright side of this seemingly tragic story is that Dr. Sandra Bouzaglou (Dr. B.) of The Center for Plastic Surgery, a client of Studio Walz, was my answer to life after a double mastectomy. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to photograph her and her office staff last year and in December she was speaking to Scott about a project that she wanted Scott's help with. The main goal of the project was to raise awareness of Breast Reconstruction and to raise funds for The Kentucky Pink Foundation. Scott would be photographing a few of her amazing patients for a book she wanted to create with their incredible stories through breast cancer and breast reconstruction. Wow, I never knew that in December that I would be facing the journey that so many women have walked before me including Scott's sister that he lost to breast cancer.Throughout the year Scott and Dr. B. traveled across Kentucky to photograph these wonderful ladies in their homes to help create the backdrop for their heartfelt stories. This project became more than another job for Scott it was a truly an emotional road he traveled as well.

I am extremely fortunate to have a wonderful supporting husband and the support of many family and friends throughout my journey. The power of God and the power of prayer was evident throughout my recovery. Now it's time to help other women know that they too can be made whole again.

Scott and I would like to invite everyone to attend the BRA DAY LEX Event (Breast Reconstruction Awareness) on October 17th at the Carrick House. It will be an event that you will never forget. Please click on the link to purchase tickets. Also at the event, the book "Looking Good to Feel Good" will be unveiled.  Please come and meet these amazing women that have opened their lives to all of us.
